Newcastle is well regarded as one of the UK’s friendliest cities and is home to Newcastle University, Northumbria University & Newcastle college which also offers a wide array of degrees and vocational courses.

The city of Newcastle is really one of a kind, with the mighty St. James Park overlooking the entire city, Newcastle is one of the few cities in the UK with a major sports stadium right in the city centre, making for a true spectacle come game day as the city unities to rally behind the toon.

For University students, there are a few key areas of interest, there’s the town centre, home to Newcastle’s sprawling nightlife venues, with a high concentration of venues situated around the ‘diamond strip’ on Collingwood sweet, club Digital on Time Square, and various venues around the gate and chinatown.

Perched upon the river Tyne and overlooking the world famous Tyne Bridge you also have the Quayside, a picturesque riverside district where a number of bars and restaurants are located.

In terms of shopping Newcastle has also plenty to offer, with a huge retail district based around Northumberland street and home to shopping centre Eldon Square.

Both Universities are city centre based with most accommodation nearby, although a large number of second and third year students choose to live in the student hotspots of Jesmond and Heaton. Sandwiched in-between Jesmond and Heaton you have Jesmond Dene, a beautiful spot for walks and nature trails whilst still only being 10 minutes from the town centre.
